Our middle school program for grades 7 and 8 is tailored to meet the unique needs of this age group while preparing students for the challenges of high school. Using a variety of high-quality resources, the curriculum integrates a biblical worldview across all subjects. Units are aligned with recognized state and national standards.

 

Middle school operates on an alternating block schedule featuring Blue and Gold days. This structure offers four 80 minute class periods each day, Blue days covering four classes and Gold days covering the other four, alternating throughout the week. Additionally, a 45 minute period, called Den Time, will provide dedicated student resource time for academic support, enrichment, or personalized projects. 
 
Summer Reading Lists - 
7 & 8 Summer Reading 
Summer Reading assignments for Middle School and High School students are due on the second day of English class. Students are encouraged to complete both the reading and the corresponding Accelerated Reader (AR) quiz during the summer. 
Each student will select one book from their grade-level reading list that they have not previously read. After finishing the book and completing the AR test, students will create a presentation that demonstrates their understanding of the novel. 
Assignment Requirements 
  • Grades 8: Create a PowerPoint presentation  
  • Grade 7: Create a trifold display board  
Presentation Components 
Student presentations should include the following: 
  • Title and author of the book  
  • A brief plot summary (without major spoilers)  
  • Description of the main characters and their roles in the story  
  • Explanation of the main conflict, including:  
    • Internal or external conflict  
    • How the conflict is resolved  
  • Discussion of the book’s major themes or lessons  
  • A favorite or most impactful scene and why it stood out  
  • A personal review and recommendation of the book  
  • A meaningful connection to real life, history, faith, or personal experience (when applicable)  
Grading Information 
  • The presentation/project will count as a formative grade.  
  • The completed AR test will count as a personal responsibility grade.  
We encourage students to choose a book that challenges and interests them while helping them continue to grow as readers over the summer.
